MĀORI TOUCH TO TOUR NSW
The Māori Touch NZ Men’s Open, Women’s Open and Mixed Open teams are set to embark on an international tour to NSW in late May to early June 2025, marking a significant milestone for Māori athletes and the wider Touch Football community.
This historic tour will see Māori Touch NZ showcase the unique skills, culture, and passion that Māori athletes bring to the sport. The tour will be a celebration of unity, cultural pride, and excellence in Touch Football, and will feature a series of high-quality matches, training sessions, and community outreach initiatives.
The highlight of the tour will be matches against the NSW Touch Association State of Origin teams in the lead up to the 2025 Origin series.
The team is being selected from New Zealand’s Māori touch community, with a special focus on promoting the development of young talent. This tour will not only highlight the team’s sporting abilities but will also serve as an opportunity to share Māori culture with those whom they play.
The tour will include matches against NSW teams and competitive clubs across several locations, with exact venues and dates to be confirmed in the coming months.
"It has been some time since we have provided representative opportunities for our community," said Finney Davis, Chairperson for Māori Touch NZ. "This is a welcome platform for our players to represent their whakapapa (heritage) and their whanau (family), and we are eager to showcase the talent and heart of our athletes. The tour will not only raise the profile of Māori sport but will also foster new connections and friendships within the international touch football community."
Special cultural exchange events will be held throughout the tour, emphasizing the importance of connection, respect, and collaboration across different cultures.
